1SG Gerardo L. Duran Jr. is a native of Abilene, Texas. He joined the Army in June of 2001 and attended OSUT as an Infantryman at Fort Benning, Georgia. 

His previous assignments include: Saw Gunner, Rifleman, Grenadier, Bradley Gunner and Dismounted Team Leader with C Company, 2-2 Infantry, Rose Barracks, Germany; Team Leader, Squad Leader, and Bradley Commander with Alpha & Charlie Company 1-29th Infantry Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia; US Army Drill Sergeant & Senior Drill Sergeant D Battery 1-19th FA, Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Platoon Sergeant in A Company 1-3 Calvary Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas; Observer Controller Trainer TF 4 RECON Squadron, Fort Polk, LA; Regiment S3 NCOIC 1st Battalion 3rd Infantry Regiment (TOG), Fort Myer, Virginia.

1SG Duran’s military education includes: BLC, ALC, SLC, Drill Sergeant School, Airborne, Combatives Level I & II, Army Recruiter School, Combat Lifesaver Course, Total Army Instructor Training, Observer Controller Academy, Master Fitness Trainer, Advance Situation Awareness Course, Battle Staff, and SHARP Certification Course.

1SG Duran’s Awards and Decorations Include Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal with Valor, Army Commendation Medal (5 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), Valorous Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (Fifth Award), National Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 3), NATO Medal, Drill Sergeant Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Driver Badge (wheel vehicle).

1SG Duran’s operational history is two deployments, Iraq and Kosovo.
