First Sergeant Jose Barreiro enlisted in the United States Army in July 1998 and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, GA in July 1999. His previous assignments include 1st Ranger BN, 75th Ranger Regt. where he served as a Ranger Weapon Squad Ammo Bearer, Assistant Gunner, Rifle Squad Automatic Rifleman, Team Leader, Company Ammo NCO, Assistant BN Ammo NCO, again as a Rifle Squad Team Leader, Squad Leader, Weapon Squad Leader and Weapons Platoon Sergeant and deployed with 1st Ranger BN eight times (4 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and 4 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom). He then served as a Ranger Instructor and Student Operations NCO in the Swamp/Florida Phase of Ranger School (where he played a key role in the development of a Microsoft Access database that records and tracks trends and stats based on environmental factors and training/combat related stress that contribute to or hinder student performance), Stryker Infantry Platoon Sergeant, Scout Platoon Sergeant, Forward Support Company First Sergeant, First Sergeant of Transportation Company, 2 BSB, 2nd SBCT, and First Sergeant of Charlie Company, 1-21 IN BN, 2nd SBCT at Schofield Barracks, HI.
First Sergeant Barreiro’s military education includes the Airborne Course, Ranger In doctrine Program, 75th Ranger Regt. Pre-Ranger Course, Ranger Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Jumpmaster Course, Combatives Level I & II, multiple military and government demolitions courses, Advanced Leader’s Course, Basic Instructor Course, Senior Tactical Leader Instructor Course, Maneuver Senior Leader Course, and the 25th ID Company Commander/1SG Pre-Command Course. He also holds an Associate’s Degree from American Military University.

First Sergeant Barreiro graduated from the Primary Leadership Development Course and the Advanced Leader’s Course on the Commandant’s Lists. He was also one of the original Modern Army Combatives Program pioneers, has won countless Army Combatives tournaments and continues to influence and aid in the ever-evolving Modern Army Combatives Program.
