  1SG James Barrett enlisted in the United States Army as a Military Police Soldier in April of 2002, where he attended Military Police One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri.  Upon Completion of MP OSUT, 1SG Barrett was assigned to the 463rd MP Company at Fort Leonard Wood, MO as a MK-19 gunner.  In November of 2002 1SG Barrett deployed to Camp As Saylia Qatar with a follow on mission to Baghdad Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I.  In February of 2004 he was assigned to the 252nd MP Det, Fort Leonard Wood, MO as a member of the Special Reaction Team.  In January of 2005 he was assigned to the 92nd MP Company in Baumholder Germany as a team leader.  In March of 2005 he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 6.  Upon redeployment from Afghanistan, he was assigned to the 92nd MP Company in Hanau Germany as a squad leader and platoon sergeant.  In October of 2007 he was assigned to A Company, 795th MP BN as a drill sergeant.  Upon Completion of drill sergeant duty, he was assigned to the 13th MP Company as a platoon sergeant.  In July of 2011 he was reassigned to the 988th MP Company at Fort Leonard Wood, MO as a platoon sergeant.  In November of 2011 he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 11-12.  Upon redeployment, he assumed responsibility as the operations sergeant for the 988th MP Company.  In August of 2013, 1SG Barrett was reassigned to the 289th MP Company, 4th BN, 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), as the Operations Sergeant.  In August of 2014 1SG Barrett assumed his current duties as the First Sergeant for Headquarters and Headquarters Company 4th Battalion, 3rd United States Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard).

His awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (9 OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (10 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (3rd Knot), Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/campaign star, Iraq Campaign Medal w/campaign star, Overseas Service Medal number 3, Combat Action Badge, and the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.  1SG Barrett is also a member of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, the USAEUR Sergeant Morales Club, and is a recipient of the Military Police Commandants 100 award.
 
His civilian and military education includes: Associates Degree in General Studies from Central Texas College, Warrior Leader Course, Military Police Advanced Leader Course, Military Police Senior Leader Course, Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course, Special Reaction Team Phase 1, Protective Services School, and Drill Sergeant School.
 
He is married to Emily Barrett and they have two children Lillian 7 and Griffin 5.
